KASI LIFE

Description of a Kasi Life

Kasi life is a life that black people in township live. It is different from suburban life or any kind of life. Kasi life is a culture on in own because people living in kasi have their own customs and social behavior that they live by. They are known for their own unique style of talking, dressing up, food like a goat head called Smiley, making traditional beers called unqombiti, and Seeking guidance in Sangomas. Kasi life is a life that if fun and interesting but it also has its own disadvantages where people get too comfortable enjoying the life and forget that there is a tomorrow. Some of the people from kasi don't want to work for themselves, they want to be spoon feed and provided by the government. They feel that it is the responsibility of the government to get them jobs, give them grant money and build them houses without them finding ways to make their lives better.

Public Relations opportunity for the #KasiLife

Opportunities for Public relations in a hashtag like #Kasilife is that social media is able to show case or advertise their Kasi for free to Tourists. They are able to show them the attractions that they have in their townships,For example in Langa, South African oldest township they can have guided walks through sections of a low cost housing and shacks. which will bring money to the township, help in grow and also contribute the South African economy. Tourist will also be able to experience township life by living like township people, were they can use taxis for transportion, eat kasi food like kota and home cooked meals from the taxi rank. Other opportunity for Public Relations is that companies can have events that can benefit both the company and the township. These event act as a marketing tool because they attract many people. In these events they have cookout Sundays every last Sunday of the month and book stalls for food outlets, cocktail bars and other brands.

Public Relations Challenges for the #KasiLife

Challenges for Public Relations in the #KasiLife is that there are many problems in townships, problems like overload of systems due to townships being over crowded, poor access to maintenance, crime and poor sanitation facilities. These problems can be a downfall for a kasi because everyone has access to social media, therefore people can go on social media and discourage tourist from visiting townships by posting about all the problems that are happening in the townships. This will mean that townships wont be recognized by people that will bring in money in the townships.

Recommendations for strategic use of social media

Townships can use social media to enhance their communication to their target audience. This can be achieved by using Facebook and twitter to create campaigns and adverts  which will keep the target audience up-to-date of what is happening in that particular township. They can also use social media to ask their target audience to give feedback on their experience vising their township and recommendations on how they can improve their products or services. This will allow the Townships to rectify whatever need to be rectified when it comes to communicating with their audience and allow change to happen in the townships.
